Charging electric vehicles is even easier with Ewiva: project to pay by card expands to all of Italy

More than 70 charging stations and over 300 charging points throughout the country. These are the numbers of the innovative project by Ewiva that allows people to pay for charging their electric car with a credit/debit card directly at the charging station.

Important news for all e-drivers traveling in Italy. Ewiva, the joint venture of Enel X Way and Volkswagen Group, created with the goal of making high-power electric car charging increasingly widespread and accessible in our country, announces an important new milestone for this 2023: the feature that allows people to pay for charging with their credit or debit card has been expanded to more than 70 Ewiva sites – for a total of more than 300 high-power charging points (PoCs) throughout Italy.

The service includes the ability to pay directly at the Ewiva charging station in contactless mode through debit, credit or prepaid cards from the Mastercard, Visa, Vpay and Maestro circuits, or through Apple Pay and Google Pay. In this way, Ewiva guarantees charging of their electric vehicle even for occasional customers, such as tourists, those who have activated a short-term rental of an electric vehicle, or anyone who does not already have a subscription with a charging service provider (MSP).

In addition, the card payment solution is designed to offer an alternative to those who are oriented toward pay-as-you-go charging, including regular e-drivers who, when in need, may need different payment methods to charge the car.

“We are very proud to announce the end of the pilot phase and the start of the operational phase of the project, which has now come to include more than 70 charging stations throughout the country,” said Federico Caleno, CEO of Ewiva and Head of Enel e-Mobility Italy. “As a CPO – Charging Point Operator, it is crucial for us to make electric vehicle charging accessible to an increasingly large number of e-drivers, ensuring a fast, intuitive and comfortable experience. Through this project, we will also be able to adequately respond to occasional charging needs.”

Launched in March 2023 at the HPC – High Power Charging – station in Ceprano (FR), the trial was then expanded to 5 other sites, selected by usage rate, traffic of tourists or e-drivers, and proximity to possible points of interest. The project has now entered its most mature phase and has been extended – by the end of 2023 – from north to south to all stations in Ewiva’s ultra-fast charging network in Italy that are part of the European Miliar-E project, in line with the European Commission’s Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR).

Ewiva: ultra-fast charging for electric vehicles arrives in Colleferro (RM)

Located in the parking lot of the Coop shopping area, the station best reflects the will of Ewiva and the municipal administration to make electric car charging increasingly accessible.

In Colleferro, mobility is becoming even more sustainable. Ewiva, the joint venture of Enel X Way and Volkswagen Group, created with the aim of making high-power public charging for electric vehicles increasingly widespread in Italy, today inaugurated a new High Power Charging (HPC) station in Colleferro (RM).

Consisting of 2 Charging Infrastructures (IdR) or “columns” of 300kW each, for a total of 4 charging points (PoC), the station is located in Via Romana, a strategic location just off the A1 highway exit and inside the parking lot of the Coop shopping area.

This is an important step in support of an ever-increasing diffusion of electric mobility and testifies to the City Administration’s commitment to innovation and environmental sustainability, with citizen services that are increasingly cutting-edge and accessible. Thanks to the synergistic collaboration with the Municipality, the number of sites activated by Ewiva in Lazio rises to 30, for a total of 115 charging points, adding to the 2,556 charging points operated by Enel X in the region, of which 2,016 are in the Metropolitan City of Roma Capitale.

“The deployment of Charging Infrastructure for electric vehicles is as essential for the development of sustainable mobility as it is strategic for the growth of local realities – said Federico Caleno, CEO of Ewiva and Head of Enel e-Mobility Italy – We thank the Municipal Administration for the valuable collaboration that has allowed us to bring to an area as industrially vibrant as Colleferro an innovative, powerful and high-performance HPC station, ideal not only for the residents of this area, but also for those who travel by electric for work or for daily trips.”

“With the inauguration of the Ewiva high-power charging station at the Coop parking lot,” said Colleferro Mayor Pierluigi Sanna, “the Municipality of Colleferro takes another big step toward the ecological transition related to individual mobility. Added to this is the possibility to take advantage of the proximity to the highway exit and give the opportunity for those who recharge, albeit in the short time necessary, to visit nearby businesses. Colleferro thus confirms its active role in promoting increasingly electric mobility and once again shows itself to be a city attentive to environmental sustainability.”

Ewiva makes its TV debut: billboard on air on La7

The company, created with the aim of making electric vehicle charging increasingly widespread, for the first time on air on TV with creativity and planning by Melismelis.

Building an ultra-fast high-power charging network for electric travel throughout Italy. This is the starting point for the 10-inch spot marking the TV debut of Ewiva, the joint venture of Enel X Way and Volkswagen Group. On air from Dec. 4 to Dec. 16, 2023 on La7, the 10″ is planned in prime time with passages during the network’s main productions in addition to 50 TV billboards positioned before and after La7’s weather, airing in the morning, coffee break and evening time slots.

In addition to representing Ewiva’s debut on the small screen, this planning also marks another important milestone for the company: it comes, in fact, exactly one year after its launch and aims to strengthen the path taken by the joint venture in the Italian territory, strengthening its brand awareness.

“The eMobility market is constantly evolving and it is a priority for all the operators involved to undertake a path of awareness for the end user,” said Luigi Antonio Poggi, Head of Marketing & Sales, Strategy, Communications at Ewiva. “It is not only necessary to publicize the service offered, but also to promote and support a concrete change towards the choice of moving electrically. It is for this reason that Ewiva, as a CPO – Charging Point Operator, which is building the most extensive ultra-fast network in Italy, has decided to focus on communication of this kind.”

Creativity and TV planning were handled by Melismelis, the agency that also handles the company’s media relations.

“Through a synergic work with Ewiva’s Communication and Marketing team, we have realized, in record time, a very tactical 10″ that aims to take the first steps of the brand awareness path of a brand with an incredible potential”– said Massimo Melis, CEO of Melismelis.

Ewiva’s high-power charging for electric vehicles arrives in Crosia (CS)

The high-power charging station inaugurated today is the third in the province of Cosenza: Ewiva, together with the Municipality, is promoting increasingly accessible and widespread electric mobility.

Ewiva’s high-power charging network continues to grow: the joint venture of Enel X Way and Volkswagen Group, created to support the development of electric mobility in Italy, and the Municipality of Crosia (CS) today inaugurated the High Power Charging (HPC) station in Via Giorgio Almirante (hamlet of Mirto Crosia), within a residential area and near various businesses and services, including bars, supermarkets, restaurants and the post office. It is, moreover, a strategic location because it is easily accessible by all tourists heading to the region’s beautiful Ionian coasts or to the picturesque landscapes of the hinterland.

The first high-power station activated in Crosia consists of 3 Recharging Infrastructures (IdR) or “columns” of 300kW each, for a total of 6 charging points (PoC), and represents the shared will of Ewiva and the Municipality to move in the direction of an increasingly green mobility with reduced environmental impact.

The activation of the new Crosia site enriches with a new piece Ewiva’s high-power charging network, created with the aim of offering to all e-drivers an accessible and carefree electric travel experience: in Calabria there are now 7 active Ewiva high-power charging stations for a total of 30 charging points, which add up to the additional 491 charging points built by Enel X in the region, 223 of which are in the province of Cosenza alone.

“Thanks to the activation of the Crosia station, made possible through synergy with the municipality, Ewiva’s network in Calabria grows further,” said Federico Caleno, CEO of Ewiva. “We are pleased to meet local realities ready for change and attentive to environmental protection. Our goal is to make Ewiva’s high-power charging network more and more capillary and widespread, trying to meet the mobility needs of all e-drivers traveling in Italy.”

“The ecological transition and, by extension, also the energy transition impose a new vision of things and, therefore, of Public Administration. In these ten years we have been faced with extraordinary, epochal and, in some ways, unprecedented challenges aimed precisely at creating a process of awareness aimed at protecting the ecosystem. Smart cities seemed a distant horizon that today is not only almost reached and surpassed but also imposes on us another challenge, that of green cities. Green, zero-impact cities with a deep ethic devoted to the exclusive enhancement of the environment. Crosia is a young community that, in this, must be able to set an example and play a leading role in the area, starting precisely from small gestures. Through the fruitful synergy with Ewiva from today we guarantee one more opportunity to those who own an electric car but, above all, we incentivize the e-mobility market by offering a smart but, above all, fast charging service that will help to break down one of the most important prejudices that restrain the development of the “full electric” car (BEV) market, the one related to the charging time,” commented Antonio Russo, Mayor of Crosia.

High-power charging for electric vehicles comes to Messina

Inaugurated today, the new charging station best reflects the Municipal Administration’s focus on sustainability and consolidates Ewiva’s High Power Charging in Sicily for increasingly widespread sustainable mobility.

Messina (ME), Oct. 11, 2023 – Ewiva, the joint venture of Enel X Way and Volkswagen Group, and the Municipality of Messina (ME) today inaugurated the High Power Charging (HPC) station for electric vehicles in Viale Boccetta – Corner Via dei Carrai. Already active, the new Ewiva-branded charging station is the first High Power Charging station activated in the territory of the Municipality of Messina and is located along the main avenue in the direction of the embarkations, a strategic location for both those leaving Sicily and those arriving there.

The site includes 3 Charging Infrastructures (IdR) or “columns” of 300kW each, for a total of 6 charging points (PoC), the Messina charging station, a direct link between Sicily and the rest of Italy, testifies to the joint venture and the Municipality’s desire to move toward an increasingly sustainable mobility that can effectively meet the needs of those who choose to travel by electric vehicles. With its 23 installed sites, for a total of 70 PoCs that add up to the additional 1,249 charging points built by Enel in the region, Ewiva further confirms its presence in Sicily, in the sign of constant growth, in the territory and nationwide.

“The inauguration of the Messina site is a source of great excitement for us, not least because it is the first high-power, 300kW activation in the municipal area. This new charging station is an important step forward in terms of the progress of green mobility in Italy and, specifically, in Sicily. Once again, the synergy between Ewiva and the local government has led to the choice of an innovative, technological and, above all, sustainable mobility model,” said Federico Caleno, CEO of Ewiva. “The transition to electric continues, therefore, at a fast pace, with a presence on the territory that is becoming more capillary every month. The large number of charging stations also makes this service more accessible, for a careful, convenient and reliable travel experience.”

“We believe in the importance of promoting a new mobility culture in Messina,” commented Mayor Federico Basile “The intervention presented today, for the realization of which we thank Ewiva, the joint venture of Enel X Way and Volkswagen Group, is part of a set of measures taken in recent years by the Municipality of Messina for greater sustainability and environmental awareness. Taking these choices also means seizing new opportunities, in terms of tourism and competitiveness.”

“The presence in the City of this first high-power charging station for electric vehicles is the result of a positive dialogue between the public and private sectors,” added Councillor Francesco Caminiti, “to put us in step with the times and project us toward a sustainable future”.

“An important piece that we are sure will contribute in a positive way to the increasingly smart future of the city of Messina and will effectively help meet the needs of those who choose to travel by electric vehicles,” said General Manager Salvo Puccio.

Charge the eletric car while enjoying shopping, thanks to the partnership between Ewiva and Mercato’

Ultra-fast recharging of electric vehicles is even more accessible, thanks to a partnership between the joint venture of Enel X Way and Volkswagen Group, created to support the development of electric mobility in Italy, and the well-known large retail store brand.

Plans are underway to install 8 charging stations in as many stores between Piedmont and Liguria, while 3 are already active in Alessandria, Rivoli (TO) and Alba (CN).

Milan, Oct. 4, 2023 – Two important Italian companies with the common goal of developing electric mobility for the benefit of environmental sustainability: Ewiva, the joint venture of Enel X Way and Volkswagen Group, created to build the country’s largest ultra-fast public charging network, and Mercato’, a firm owned by Dimar SpA, a major italian retail company, are working together to activate ultra-fast charging infrastructures in the parking lots of the Dimar network of supermarkets and superstores.

So all the e-drivers will be able to recharge their cars while enjoying shopping at the market, guaranteeing a simple, fast and comfortable user experience that saves time and cancels the so-called “recharging anxiety.”

A collaboration launched in May 2022, thanks to which 8 Ewiva high-power charging stations are already scheduled to be activated in as many Dimar Group outlets in Piedmont and Liguria, for a total of 34 charging points. A number that is already set to grow, however, to offer the high-power electric charging service at additional outlets. To date, 3 charging stations have already been activated, starting with the Mercatò Extra in Alessandria (in June 2023), which was followed by the Mercatò in Rivoli, in the province of Turin (July 2023), while the latest activation in chronological order is the one in Alba (CN), which took place recently, in conjunction with the inauguration of Mercatò Extra, the new superstore in San Cassiano.

The main Ewiva solutions that will be installed in supermarket parking lots consist, depending on the space available, of 2 or 3 Charging Infrastructures (IdR) or “columns,” each with 150kW or 300kW power, for a total of 4 or 6 charging points.

“We are pleased with this collaboration with Dimar Group. This agreement focuses on the real needs of electric vehicle owners and, precisely for this reason, aims at fostering sustainable mobility,” said Federico Caleno, CEO of Ewiva. “Ewiva strongly believes in the potential of the combination of electric cars and the offer of commercial services to e-drivers: in fact, for the “customer/e-driver it is one more opportunity to optimize charging times while taking advantage to devote themselves to shopping in the meantime. And on the other hand, for the merchant, an opportunity to grow their business by attracting new potential customers. By installing new charging points in supermarket parking lots, moreover, Mercatò and Ewiva are promoting the spread of a public infrastructure network that further enables the use of innovative and less polluting vehicles.”

“Plug & charge” system arrives on Ewiva’s high-power network: electric charging is getting easier

Starting today, it will be easier than ever to charge at one of the 280 Ewiva stations, thanks to the innovative plug&charge system introduced in collaboration with Enel X Way as a technological enabler that allows the charging station to communicate directly with the car without the use of apps or cards. Moreover, just recently Ewiva extended the trial for direct payment by credit/debit card to 5 new Italian cities.

Milan, Sept. 20, 2023 – Ewiva is enhancing its efforts to make its electric vehicle charging service increasingly simple and open to all the e-drivers. After the recent expansion to 5 new Italian cities of the experimental project that allows people to pay for charging with their credit or debit card directly at the charging site, the joint venture of Enel X Way and Volkswagen Group has introduced Plug&Charge functionality on all its ultra-fast charging stations in Italy.

So from now on, at all HPC – High Power Charging – Ewiva charging stations, drivers of Plug&Charge-enabled electric cars will be able to recharge their vehicles without the use of apps or cards. In fact, thanks to the Plug&Charge feature, once they reach the HPC charging station, they have to simply unplug the connector from the column and plug it into the vehicle: the column automatically recognizes the car and the user profile connected to it, and in just a few seconds autonomously starts charging. To end the operation, on the other hand, simply press the stop button on the column, detach the connector from the car, put it back in its housing, and drive off again.

The Plug&Charge functionality, which complies with the ISO 15118 standard and has been introduced by Ewiva for the first time in a widespread manner on its network thanks to the technological enablement of Enel X Way, is already available on numerous electric vehicles spread across the market, allowing for fast, simple and reliable recharging and payment.

And to make the charging even easier, together with the introduction of Plug&Charge functionality, Ewiva is working on the expansion of the experimental project that allows people to pay for recharging with their credit or debit card, directly on its network. Launched in March 2023 at the HPC station in Ceprano (FR), the trial was extended in September to other charging stations selected for different use cases and types of tourist or general motorist traffic: Siena and Capalbio in Tuscany, Carini in Sicily, Lainate in Lombardy, and Mondovì in Piedmont. The service includes the possibility to pay directly at the station contactless through debit, credit or prepaid cards of the Mastercard, Visa, Vpay and Maestro circuits, or through Apple Pay and Google Pay.

With this innovation, Ewiva aims to enable electric vehicle charging even for occasional customers, such as tourists, those who have activated a short-term rental of an electric vehicle, or anyone who does not already have a subscription with a charging service provider (MSP). In addition, this card payment solution is also designed to offer an alternative to those who are oriented toward pay-as-you-go charging, including regular e-drivers who, in an emergency, may need different payment methods to take advantage of charging.

“Ewiva’s commitment to the development of electric mobility in Italy,” said Federico Caleno, CEO of Ewiva and Head of Country Italy of Enel X Way, “passes not only through the extension of the high-power charging infrastructure from the North to the South of the country, but also through the ability to offer new services to e-drivers that make the experience of traveling electrically increasingly simple and accessible to all. In fact, the Plug&Charge feature and the ability to pay for charging by card and enable the network to different payment circuits meet the multiple charging needs and broaden the accessibility of the service.”

These two initiatives confirm Ewiva’s desire to spread electric mobility in our country, a mission the company is fulfilling by focusing on ease, convenience and ubiquity. In fact, with its own charging network, Ewiva is now present all over the country, from North to South, including the Islands.

With Ewiva everything is POSsible: card payment extended to 5 new stations

After the pilot project in Ceprano (FR), the experimentation of contactless payment service by credit card or ATM card also arrives in Lainate (MI), Mondovì (CN), Siena (SI), Capalbio (GR) and Carini (PA).

Accessibility is one of the pillars of the project of Ewiva, a reality born from the joint venture between Enel X Way and Volkswagen Group to create the largest ultra-fast charging network in Italy. Among our goals is to make electric mobility simple and affordable for everyone, meeting the needs of an increasing number of e-drivers.

After the pilot project of the Ceprano (FR) station, we have extended to 5 other Ewiva stations the experimentation of the service that offers the possibility to recharge one’s car and pay by card directly at the charging station, even when one does not have a subscription with a charging service provider (MSP).

In particular, the contactless payment service has been extended to the stations in Capalbio (GR), Carini (PA), Lainate (MI), Mondovì (CN) and Siena (SI) and is aimed at all those who need a non-regular recharge, such as foreign tourists traveling or those who have rented an electric vehicle. In addition, this option can also be useful for regular e-drivers in case of need.

Where can I find Ewiva stations where you can pay by card?

Here is a detailed list with the addresses of the 6 Ewiva stations where you can recharge your electric car by paying by credit or debit card:

– Capalbio, Via Origlio 86
– Ceprano, Via Caragno 12
– Carini, Via Chiachea 17
– Lainate, Via Juan Manuel Fangio
– Mondovì, Corso Mondovicino 13
– Siena, Via Fausto Coppi 1

Which circuits are enabled for payment?

The service provides the possibility to pay directly at the station in contactless mode through debit, credit or prepaid cards of the Mastercard, Visa, Vpay and Maestro circuits, or through Apple Pay and Google Pay. For the trial period, recharging and paying via one of these methods directly at the Ewiva stations listed above will cost €0.90/kWh including VAT.

Ewiva runs fast: 950 high-power charging points for electric vehicles already installed seven months after launch

The joint venture between Enel X Way and Volkswagen Group, seven months after its launch, has more than 280 stations built, totaling about 950 ultra-fast charging points. The goal for 2025 is to reach 3,000 points across the country.

Milano, 3 August 2023 – More than 280 stations for a total of about 950 ultra-fast charging points installed throughout the country, from North to South. These are the results achieved by Ewiva, the joint venture of Enel X Way, the Enel Group company entirely dedicated to electric mobility, and Volkswagen Group, the automotive industry leader that has embraced the electrification strategy.

For Ewiva, the first seven months following the launch and inauguration of the first “Premium” charging site in Rome, are already returning significant figures, as the company is contributing to the growth of high-power infrastructure in Italy, creating the most extensive and widespread network of HPC – High Power Charging – public charging stations along the national territory. Thus the CPO – Charging Point Operator – confirms its mission to accelerate our country’s transition to electric mobility by developing an ultra-fast, innovative, high-performance charging infrastructure that is increasingly affordable for everyone.

Results that, moreover, translate into a concrete contribution to environmental sustainability for our country1: in particular, as of July 2023, recharges carried out by e-drivers on the Ewiva network have avoided the emission of more than 7,100,000 kg of CO2 (equivalent to having planted 394,000 trees), 500 kg of particulate matter, 16,700 kg of nitrogen oxides, and have also contributed in the reduction of noise pollution equal to the amount of noise produced by more than 11,200 motor cars. In addition, the sheer number of kilometers traveled by those who have recharged on Ewiva’s infrastructure, amounting to 58 million kilometres – 1,450 times the circumference of the Earth – highlight the users’ shared desire to travel electric, preserving the environment as much as possible by relying on a high-efficiency network with 100% renewable energy.

Ewiva thus traces the shared visions of Enel X Way and Volkswagen Group on the global electrification of transportation toward the goal of carbon neutrality.

The diffusion of electric mobility in Italy is the goal that Ewiva aims to enable through the capillarity, efficiency and reliability of infrastructures and their positioning in strategic areas of the country, but also by improving the level of accessibility to charging facilities, which translates into total freedom of movement from North to South, for drivers of electric vehicles.

With this in mind, in addition to the more than 50 recharging service providers (“MSPs,” Mobility Service Providers) interoperable with the Ewiva network through which users can take advantage of recharging with Apps or RFID Cards, there are several projects that the company is developing, first and foremost the introduction of Plug&Charge functionality on all its recharging stations, an innovative system that allows the charging station to dialogue directly with the car, without the need to authenticate through apps or cards, but also the experimental project that allows e-drivers to pay contactless directly at the station with debit, credit, or prepaid cards from the Mastercard, Visa, Vpay, and Maestro circuits, as well as through Apple Pay and Google Pay.

“The results obtained in this first part of the year only spur us on to pursue our goals even more wholeheartedly,” said Federico Caleno, CEO of Ewiva and Head of Country Italy of Enel X Way. “The path towards sustainable mobility has seen a turning point in recent years and involves various public and private actors, in different and complementary industries. Ewiva, by building the high-power electric charging infrastructure and committing to make the electric charging service accessible to everyone, from North to South, plays a leading role in the spread of e-mobility in our country. By 2025, we aim to install 3,000 ultra-fast charging points in Italy: an ongoing commitment, which we share with Local Administrators who decide to promote e-mobility in their municipalities, but also with multiple private partners belonging to different sectors, such as GDO, Ho.Re.Ca and Retail, who support Ewiva’s vision and to whom we are grateful for their collaboration towards a more sustainable future.”
