Ewiva expands its network in Sicily: new ultra-fast charging station inaugurated in Mazara del Vallo (TP)

Ewiva, the joint venture of Enel X and Volkswagen Group, created to accelerate the development of electric mobility in Italy, has inaugurated a new ultra-fast charging station at 5 Via Giovanni Lozano in Mazara del Vallo. This new site, built in synergy with dealer Essepiauto, contributes to the development of services and infrastructure to make electric mobility an increasingly easy choice. This achievement was also made possible thanks to the support of the municipal administration, which is attentive to the needs of e-drivers in the area.

The new station is equipped with 3 charging infrastructures, also called “columns,” of 300 kW each, for a total of 6 charging points (PoCs): an accessible and flexible solution for residents and tourists. In addition, the station is located in a commercial area, a short distance from the highway junction, making it a strategic and convenient stop for all e-drivers.

With this new activation, Ewiva reaches a total of 23 ultra-fast stations and 72 active high-power charging points in Sicily, helping to make e-mobility a practical option throughout the region. The chosen location in Mazara del Vallo is particularly relevant to support tourist traffic, especially during the summer season, and to meet the demand for ultra-fast charging solutions in the area.

“We are excited to inaugurate a new Ewiva charging station in Mazara del Vallo. This is another step forward in our mission to create a widespread and accessible charging network throughout Italy,” said Daniela Biscarini, CEO of Ewiva. “Sicily is a region of great relevance, both for the growing demand for sustainable mobility by residents and for the high influx of tourists, especially in the summer months. Thanks to the synergy with Essepiauto, we have created a true supply chain collaboration that has allowed us to bring an ultra-fast charging solution to Mazara del Vallo. This project is another concrete example of the importance of close collaboration between private entities and Public Administrations, for the development of a widespread network along the national territory. It is essential to continue in this direction, to ensure a safe and high-performance charging service, offering e-drivers a convenient and worry-free electric travel experience.”

“The auto market, as is well known, needs structural interventions and supports to accelerate demand from Customers. Ewiva’s investment in our territory responds to part of these needs, giving Citizens and Tourists the opportunity for ultrafast charging and thus meeting the need for convenient, fast and sustainable mobility,” said Paolo Tedesco, Owner of Essepiauto. “As the Tedesco Family and Essepiauto, we are happy to have helped Ewiva choose our city and our territory and to have invested in this modern site, the only one of this size and power characteristics in all of western Sicily, proving that our region needs the joint work of public and private to offer quality infrastructure and services.”

Also cutting the ribbon of the new high-power station was Mayor Salvatore Quinci, who said, “Mazara del Vallo continues its journey as a green city and welcomes this important investment by Ewiva and the Tedesco family, which confirms Essepiauto’s forward-looking vision.” “Sustainable mobility,” Quinci stressed, ”is now an established reality, and the expansion of the offer in the area of dedicated infrastructure with this innovative ultrafast recharging station responds to a twofold need: entrepreneurial of investors and an increase in services for our community and for tourists and visitors who are increasingly projecting themselves towards electric.

Loreto (AN): Ewiva inaugurates new ultrafast charging station

Ewiva, the joint venture of Enel X and Volkswagen Group created to accelerate the development of electric mobility in Italy, today inaugurated a new ultra-fast charging station at Via Pizzardeto 20.

This is an important milestone made possible thanks to the collaboration with the municipal administration, which underscores the desire to provide an additional service to those who have chosen to travel electrically while promoting greener mobility within its territory.

The new site is equipped with 2 Charging Infrastructures (IdR) – or “columns” – of 150kW each, for a total of 4 charging points (PoC) and is located in a commercial area, a short distance from the Loreto freeway exit of the Adriatic Highway, in a strategic position both for e-drivers traveling on the A14, but also for those who make small daily trips and for those who want to take advantage of the short wait for charging while indulging in a snack or a bit of shopping.

With the inauguration of the new charging station at Via Pizzardeto 20 in Loreto, Ewiva is further extending the ubiquity of its High Power Charging (HPC) network from 100kW to 350kW in Italy and the Marche region. In the region, in fact, the high power charging stations already activated by the joint venture rise to 13, for a total of 40 charging points.

“Ewiva’s commitment to support the spread of electric mobility in Italy does not stop and the inauguration of this new charging station in Loreto is confirmation of this,” commented Daniela Biscarini, CEO of Ewiva. ”The collaboration with the Municipality of Loreto is a source of satisfaction because it allows us to offer e-drivers in the Marche region an even more extensive and high-performance charging service that further simplifies the choice of moving by electric on the regional territory. The installation of ultra-fast charging stations in a capillary manner from the North to the South of our country is a fundamental goal for us to ensure that all citizens and people traveling on these routes can benefit from HPC technology and find a convenient, fast and functional charging station with services nearby.”

“The Municipal Administration of Loreto welcomes the ultra-fast charging station being inaugurated this morning in our City. – said Moreno Pieroni, Mayor of Loreto -The future of electric mobility and ecological transition is advancing and Loreto wants to demonstrate its commitment to achieve this important goal. The installation of these new high-powered charging stations, in an area of high transit such as Via Pizzardeto, will allow us to reach a wide range of users, from the users of the area’s shopping centers to the many travelers who will pass through Loreto the surrounding areas. Definitely a factor that will encourage the use of sustainable mobility of the population and a whole area that, especially in summer, is high in tourism density.”

“We are pleased to host in Loreto the new charging station for electric vehicles, which is also the only one in the entire area to be ‘ultra-fast,’ that is, to have higher speed and power characteristics than normal charging stations,” is the comment of Loreto City Councilor for the Environment Fabiola Principi. ”This allows us to be a reference point for the area, also at the national level since this station will also be signaled in highway guides and many travelers will be able to decide to leave the highway network to take advantage of it: a fact that will bring more tourist presences as well. I see this as an important step in making Loreto more and more an eco-friendly city.”

Electric cars and heat: tips for summer

Summer is here, and with rising temperatures and summer road trips just around the corner, it is essential to be prepared to enjoy your electric adventures to the fullest.

Electric cars, like traditional cars, can also be affected by high temperatures: extreme heat can affect battery life and charging speed. If in traditional cars, coolant and radiator fluids come into play to prevent excessive engine overheating, in electric cars there are special temperature regulation systems that preserve the condition of lithium-ion batteries.

These are critical components especially when the car is running or charging, because outside temperatures contribute to raising the already high temperatures of the battery pack in action. Hot weather, especially when outside temperatures exceed 35 degrees, affects the performance and overall health of the battery, so it is important to put some useful tricks into practice.

Here are some tips for traveling and charging your electric car smoothly in the summer.

CONSULT THE MAP AND PLAN YOUR TRIP WITH EWIVA

Take a break

In summer, especially during long trips, it is essential to take breaks. While your car is charging at the station, take advantage of a refreshing break. Ewiva stations are always located in strategic locations where e-drivers can find bars, restaurants, stores and services within walking distance. A great opportunity to refuel and experience charging time to the fullest.

While charging, use the pre-cooling feature

Although newer electric cars are equipped with advanced and more efficient cooling systems, it is good to maintain healthy habits to best preserve them. While charging, activate the cabin’s pre-cooling function: the air conditioner will use the energy delivered by the grid, preserving that of the battery, which you can instead make full use of during the journey.

Adopt a balanced driving style

In addition to using air conditioning and the right tricks to maximize energy efficiency, there are other best practices that can positively influence the electric travel experience in the warmer months. In particular, adopting a balanced driving style, thus moderating speed and avoiding abrupt maneuvers, preserves battery health, as well as enhancing the safety of those on board and increasing the efficiency of the car.

Charging at the least hot times of the day

High outdoor temperatures are the most difficult element of disruption to deal with during the summer: electric car batteries, and especially charging stations, can experience a drop in performance the moment temperatures exceed 35 degrees. Charging during the cooler times of summer days is a very effective way to achieve more efficient charging. So, if possible, charge your car early in the morning or in the evening, thus avoiding the hottest times of the day

AFIR Directive: what it is and why it is important for the future of electric mobility

Electric mobility represents a significant shift in the transportation sector, and its wider deployment is directly related to the creation of an accessible, widespread and efficient charging infrastructure. To support this transition, starting in April 2024, the European Union introduced the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR). This regulation, an integral part of the Commission’s “Fit for 55” climate package, aims to confirm and expand the objectives already introduced by the 2016 Alternative Fuel Initiative (DAFI) Directive, providing a more effective regulatory framework for the development of electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

Objectives and impact of the AFIR Directive

The main objective of the AFIR Directive is to promote the use of alternative fuels in the transport sector, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. To do so, the new regulation requires member states to commit to very ambitious infrastructure targets.

In particular, AFIR will have an important impact for electric mobility because it provides specific guidelines for member states to follow in building a charging infrastructure that is responsive to market needs. The key requirement is the obligation to match the total capacity of publicly accessible charging stations to the number of registered electric cars.

In addition, the regulation prescribes, the obligation to have, by 2025, at least one public charging station every 60 km, and all infrastructure will have to provide at least one charging point capable of delivering 150 kW or more power. This means that in the coming years the charging network will be increasingly extensive, widespread and powerful.

AFIR also contemplates the creation of accessible and interoperable charging points throughout the EU, through the adoption of common standards for connectors and charging services provided by Mobility Service Providers (MSPs). A common approach given by a homogeneous standard is the key to face with confidence the future challenges of this sector and to contribute, also in Italy, to the realization of a charging infrastructure that is even more state-of-the-art and able to meet users’ needs.

AFIR represents a great opportunity and challenge for industry players like Ewiva, but it is above all a guarantee for the e-drivers of today and tomorrow because it ensures access to a reliable and affordable charging network. Thanks to this legislation, it will be increasingly easy to choose zero-emission mobility, which is the main tool for addressing climate change and improving the air quality of our cities.
