Ewiva brings electric mobility to high schools with “E-mobility@School” educational project

Bringing new generations closer to and enthusiastic about the world of electric mobility: it is with this goal that Ewiva, the joint venture of Enel X and Volkswagen Group, launches the educational project “E-MOBILITY@SCHOOL – the electrifying journey begins today,” which for the 2024-2025 school year involves more than 500 classes and about 12,500 students from secondary schools throughout Italy.

Sponsored by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security and in line with the goals of the UN 2030 Agenda, the educational initiative is free for schools and is aimed at raising awareness among the youngest students on extremely topical issues such as sustainability, climate change, emissions reduction and the future of mobility. The project, in fact, provides a curriculum that can bring teachers and children closer to the world of e-mobility, learn about its benefits, discover the technologies that make this type of mobility increasingly easy, as well as its impact in environmental terms, while promoting the spread of knowledge about the energy transition.

Not only that: by dialoguing with the new generations through schools, the project aims to break down existing barriers and clarify widespread doubts about one of the most current and recurring topics in the economic and information scenario.

Implemented in collaboration with Neways, a communications company specializing in educational projects, the E-MOBILITY@SCHOOL project involves sending to all participating classes a digital teaching kit to support teachers and students that deals with the most current topics of Environmental Education in line with the mandatory cross-curricular teaching of Civic Education (Law 92/2019) and the Sustainable Development Goals of Agenda 2030, specifically Goals 7 “clean and affordable energy,” 9 “business, innovation and infrastructure,” 11 “sustainable cities and communities,” and 13 “combating climate change.” Inside the kit there is also a final questionnaire that gives access to a certificate of participation useful to receive training credits, in agreement with the school.

Schools may choose to continue the journey by also hosting educational meetings with experts in the field who will engage students and allow them to get to the heart of the issues of electric mobility and energy transition.

Finally, schools may also choose to participate in the creative contest provided by the E-MOBILITY@SCHOOL project to further engage classes on the issues addressed. Students will have to create an artistic essay on the theme “Your idea of energy and sustainable mobility”; the 3 most interesting projects, selected by a jury, will become mural artworks created by professional street artists who will use them as inspiration to decorate Ewiva charging stations in different locations in Italy. In addition, the 3 winning classes will receive a cash voucher as a prize for the purchase of technology or educational products to be used in school activities.

“Ewiva is a joint venture created to accelerate the diffusion of electric mobility in Italy,” says Daniela Biscarini, CEO of Ewiva, ”and so it is natural to turn to the new generations, because they will be the ones to lead the way toward a zero-emission future. Young people must be protagonists of this change, as conscious and decisive actors in the green transition. Our task is to stimulate them and give them all the tools so that they can develop a full awareness with respect to their daily choices, including mobility, and a sense of responsibility toward environmental sustainability.”

Ewiva builds 115 HPC PoCs between January and September 2024

Ewiva, the joint venture of Enel X and Volkswagen Group, has installed another 115 ultra-fast charging points (PoCs) for electric vehicles at 30 new stations from January through September 2024, further strengthening its network in Italy.

With the expansion of its HPC charging sites in all Italian regions, Ewiva once again confirms itself as a key player in enabling electric mobility from North to South, offering an increasingly extensive, widespread and high-performing network.

In Northern Italy, in fact, Ewiva has installed 21 new charging stations, which translates into 74 PoCs, distributed in different regions: in Lombardy (7), Emilia-Romagna (4), Piedmont (5), Liguria (3), Trentino-Alto Adige and Veneto (1).

New activations also in Central-Southern Italy: there are 9 new charging stations built, for a total of 41 PoCs: in Abruzzo (1), Lazio (3), Marche (1), Tuscany (1), Puglia (1) and finally Sicily and Sardinia (1 per region).

As usual, Ewiva’s new charging stations are all strategically located near businesses, services or points of interest, further confirming the company’s commitment to ensuring an increasingly simple and comfortable charging experience for e-drivers. With the same goal in mind, at the new stations it is possible to pay directly at the Ewiva charging station in contactless mode through debit, credit or prepaid cards from the Mastercard, Visa, Vpay and Maestro circuits, or through Apple Pay and Google Pay.

E-drivers appreciate ewiva’s high power charging network

Widely present throughout Italy, the “High Power Charging” (HPC) electric vehicle charging sites installed by the joint venture of Enel X and Volkswagen Group have been praised by 94 percent of electric vehicle drivers.

When it comes to the quality of a service, the judgment that matters most is that of those who use it every day. This is the case for Ewiva’s high-power public charging service, which received a score of 4.77 out of 5 from end customers: this is what emerges from data collected one year after the company began its collaboration with &Charge, the platform that allows users to leave their feedback on the charging experience, with the aim of constantly improving the service.

Over the past year (July 2023-August 2024), the high-power sites of the Charging Point Operator (CPO) – born from the collaboration between Enel X and Volkswagen Group to promote the transition to electric mobility in our country – have been appreciated by 94 percent of e-drivers, who also judged the charging speed of Ewiva’s columns to be in line with expectations. In addition, 97 percent of users said they found Ewiva charging stations in perfect condition and preferred those located near businesses or shopping centers, bars and fast food restaurants.

Added to the data collected by the &Charge platform are those from the internal analyses that Ewiva conducts in real time on the entire network, with the aim of ensuring the best possible service in terms of efficiency, ease of use and speed. These show that the state of network availability, that is, the time during which, net of external causes, the infrastructure is uninterruptedly turned on and properly functioning, has stood at 99 percent over the past year. Also according to the information collected by Ewiva, up to August 2024, more than 800,000 recharges of an average duration of about 30 minutes have been carried out, during which thanks to high-power charging, depending on the various models of electric cars, it is possible to bring the battery to at least about 20 percent to 80 percent and be immediately ready to go again.

Also positive is the data regarding the waiting time at the charging station. In fact, it turns out that queues almost never occur at Ewiva sites: only in about 2 percent of cases charging takes place within two minutes of the previous one, demonstrating how Ewiva, by continuing to extend its ultra-fast charging network through a dynamic and flexible growth plan, acts to anticipate and thus enable the growing adoption of electric vehicles in Italy.

Luigi Antonio Poggi, Head of Marketing & Sales, Strategy, Communications at Ewiva commented: “The appreciation of the e-drivers who stop and recharge at our stations every day stimulates us to continue on our path toward more sustainable and affordable mobility. We are constantly striving to improve the recharging experience, and after the recent extension of the contactless e-payment service, which is now available at many sites throughout Italy, we will develop further innovations that will make the service increasingly accessible and easy to use. We are focusing on columns equipped with a storage system, or capable of delivering energy at higher powers, but also on expanding the number of charging service providers (MSPs) enabled on the Ewiva network, which today already number about 80. Every choice we make is made to make motorists increasingly satisfied that they have chosen electric.”

Ewiva: 292 charging points built thanks to the EU project Miliar-E

72 High Power Charging sites, for a total of 292 high-power charging points: these are the numbers of the European Commission-funded project that the charging network operator has won and brought to completion.

Thanks to the European project Miliar-E (Italian Capillary Ultrafast Charging Network for Electric Vehicles), Ewiva hits another important milestone for electric mobility in Italy and Europe. In fact, the joint venture of Enel X and Volkswagen Group has installed and activated the project’s 150 Charging Infrastructures, with a power output of 300kW each, for a total of 292 high-power charging points (PoCs) distributed over 72 High Power Charging sites along Ten-T, the trans-European transport network.

Miliar-E is the first European project that Ewiva has been awarded under the Connecting Europe Facility – Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (CEF – AFIF) program and involves, at the overall level, an investment of more than 20 million euros jointly funded by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) and private resources. As part of the project, Ewiva was awarded more than €7 million in funding.

Also as part of the CEF – AFIF program, Ewiva was also awarded grants for the implementation of new high-power charging points in Italy through the Next Wav-E projects, which involves upgrading the ultra-fast charging network for light electric vehicles, and Heavy Wav-E, which aims to integrate the charging network for light vehicles with charging infrastructure for heavy electric vehicles.

“We strongly believe in a future under the banner of a new mobility, in Italy and the rest of Europe, that is accessible and able to liberate the desire to move by electric. – commented Ewiva – The funding obtained from the European Commission testifies to the quality of our work and the effectiveness of this joint venture that, although young, has already achieved such important results. Thanks to the commitment of the entire supply chain, which is almost entirely Italian and with which we collaborate synergistically, we can in fact announce that we have closed the Miliar-E project: we are now ready to face the next challenges to achieve the electrification of mobility in our country.”

Ewiva thus confirms its commitment to the electric transition in Italy and reaffirms, once again, its ambitious goal: to connect, bring closer and accelerate a more sustainable future, making the choice of electric mobility increasingly simple and affordable for everyone, in a capillary way, throughout the country. As of June 2024, the joint venture that brings together the investments of the two Groups has realized over 360 charging stations with more than 1,200 charging points located throughout Italy, from North to South.

The new CEO continues, “We will work to simplify the charging action as much as possible, expanding the variety of solutions offered, and introducing new technologies. We will also engage in the adoption of increasingly advanced infrastructure usage data monitoring and analysis systems to improve network performance, as well as in multichannel access to the service, to extend the number of 80 Mobility Service Providers already enabled on our Ewiva network. We intend to focus on the development of electric mobility for cars but, in parallel, we also want to contribute to electrification through the study of new projects dedicated to high-power charging for heavy vehicles”.

As of June 2024, the joint venture of Enel X and Volkswagen Group has been developing the most extensive and widespread high-power charging networks in Italy, with more than 360 sites, totaling more than 1,200 installed charging points. In addition, Ewiva has launched multiple important projects, such as the introduction on all its charging stations of Plug&Charge, the feature that allows the charging station to communicate directly with the car and immediately start charging, the partnership with &Charge, a platform that collects e-drivers’ reviews on the charging experience, to improve the quality of the service.

Ewiva extends payment with card to more than 100 charging sites in Italy

Milan, April 15, 2024Ewiva, the joint venture of Enel X and Volkswagen Group, announces a new step toward an increasingly widespread and easy-to-use high-power network: the feature that allows people to pay to recharge their electric vehicle with a credit or debit card is now available at 113 Ewiva sites-more than 400 charging points (PoCs) -across the country. In fact, in the first few months of the year there were 43 sites where the service was extended (for a total of 96 PoCs), adding to the more than 70 where it was already available.

In more than 60 provinces throughout Italy – from North to South, including the islands – it is now possible to pay directly at the Ewiva site with debit, credit or prepaid cards of the Mastercard, Visa, Vpay and Maestro circuits, or through Apple Pay and Google Pay, for an even easier recharging experience.

In fact, the service meets not only the needs of occasional customers, such as tourists and all those who have activated a short-term rental of an electric vehicle, but also of regular e-drivers who, in case of an emergency, may need different payment methods to recharge.

Not only that: it is also an ideal solution for those who have decided to opt for a pay-as-you-go top-up, without, therefore, subscribing with a mobility service provider (MSP).

“Making the recharging service more and more accessible: this is our primary goal, and we are very happy to be able to announce a further expansion of the service that allows you to pay with your card, active to date on more than 100 sites throughout Italy,” said Federico Caleno, CEO of Ewiva. “An increasing number of e-drivers will now be able to recharge their vehicles even more easily and quickly. From occasional users to those who decide to opt for a pay-as-you-go service, the project meets every recharging need, freeing the desire for an electric mobility.”

The 43 charging stations where this functionality has been expanded, in line with the European Commission’s Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR), are part of the European CEUC project.

Ewiva: closes 2023 with more than 330 high-power charging stations built throughout Italy

More than 1,150 charging points have been installed from northern to southern Italy. For 2024, a greater offer in terms of solutions, the introduction of new technologies, an increase in the capillarization of the network in the most strategic areas and an increase in the power of the new infrastructure is planned.

Milano, 19 March 2024 – Accelerating the transition to electric mobility by developing nationwide ultra-fast and affordable High Power Charging (HPC) infrastructure. It is by constantly pursuing this goal that Ewiva, a joint venture of Enel X and Volkswagen Group, continues its growth path to reach 3,000 charging points at more than 750 sites throughout Italy.

Ewiva’s 2024: goals and strategy
Since the inauguration of the first “Premium” site at Via Flaminia 871 in Rome in December 2022 at its official launch, Ewiva has contributed to the energy transition of our country and intends to continue with the widespread extension of the high-power network, focusing on the most strategic areas, with high demand for mobility and located near services and points of interest for e-drivers. The efforts of the Charging Point Operator (CPO) will also be directed to the careful analysis of the electric mobility market trend, with the aim of modulating its activities to promptly accommodate its needs, under the banner of total flexibility.

To ensure maximum versatility for both the partners who will host the stations and the e-drivers who will use them, Ewiva will engage on:

  • expansion of the variety of solutions offered, with the installation of some “hybrid” charging stations, i.e., equipped with columns capable of delivering power even at powers up to 400 kW, always ensuring ultra-fast charging;
  • realization of multi-column sites, equipped with innovative systems capable of simplifying the action of charging;
  • introduction of new technologies, including innovative columns with storage systems to ensure high-power charging even where it would not be technically possible;
  • increased use of shelters equipped with photovoltaic panels to make the charging experience more comfortable by contributing to renewable energy production;
  • adoption of increasingly advanced infrastructure usage data monitoring and analysis systems to improve network performance and to develop Ewiva’s presence in the territory in line with the mobility needs of e-drivers;
  • extension of the number of Mobility Service Providers enabled to the Ewiva network (to date already about 70).

Ewiva’s achievements to 2023
With more than 330 sites, for a total of more than 1,150 recharging points installed, Ewiva is now present in all Italian regions and is one of the leading players in the country’s electric mobility scene. Since the company’s launch, more than 550,000 recharges have been made, enabling all e-drivers to travel more than 100 million kilometers, a distance equal to about 2,500 times the circumference of the Earth.

These are important numbers that reflect a concrete benefit to the environment. In fact, through December 2023, recharges made at Ewiva’s columns have avoided the emission of:

  • more than 12,000 tons of CO2, which is equivalent to the planting of 650,000 trees;
  • 800 kg of particulate matter;
  • nearly 30 tons of nitrogen oxides.

A benefit in terms of noise pollution as well: an amount of noise equal to that produced by more than 20,000 cars with endothermic engines was avoided.

Freedom to travel electric: the innovations introduced by Ewiva
Over the past year, Ewiva has initiated a series of projects that lead the way for the evolution of the electric charging network in Italy. These include the introduction on all its charging stations of Plug&Charge, the feature that allows the charging station to communicate directly with the passenger car and immediately start charging, without the need to authenticate through apps or cards. 2023 was also the year of the partnership with &Charge, the platform that-thanks to the involvement of e-drivers-enables Ewiva to collect feedback on the charging experience and improve the quality of the service offered, which already guarantees a 99 percent reliability level across the entire network.

In addition, the CPO has implemented the ability to pay for refills directly at the charging station in contactless mode with the electronic payment instruments routinely used by customers. This important innovation, which to date affects more than 70 sites throughout Italy, about 300 recharging points, and will be further extended in 2024, makes it possible to meet the needs of the many occasional customers and those who are oriented toward pay-as-you-go recharging or all those who do not already have a subscription with a mobility service provider (MSP).

In 2023, Ewiva also completed the installation and activation of the High Power Charging sites, with a capacity of 150kW each and located along the Ten-T (Trans-European Transport Network), envisaged by the European Miliar-E project, in line with the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR).

Says Federico Caleno, CEO of Ewiva: “The milestones we have achieved represent a starting point that pushes us to commit further to an increasingly sustainable and affordable mobility. We want to continue to be enablers of electric mobility in Italy, and the many collaborations we have already started with Local Administrations and private partners (e.g., from the large-scale retail sector, Ho.Re.Ca or retail more generally) from North to South, stimulate us to move forward.”

“Not only that. – continues Caleno – For the new year, we foresee an increase in the power of the infrastructure park, with the aim of enabling charging also to new models of electric cars capable of accepting higher and higher levels of charging power and consistent with the requirements of the European funding obtained. Innovative solutions, versatility and ubiquity are the indispensable factors we focus on, to make users increasingly satisfied with having chosen electric.”

Charging electric vehicles is even easier with Ewiva: project to pay by card expands to all of Italy

More than 70 charging stations and over 300 charging points throughout the country. These are the numbers of the innovative project by Ewiva that allows people to pay for charging their electric car with a credit/debit card directly at the charging station.

Important news for all e-drivers traveling in Italy. Ewiva, the joint venture of Enel X Way and Volkswagen Group, created with the goal of making high-power electric car charging increasingly widespread and accessible in our country, announces an important new milestone for this 2023: the feature that allows people to pay for charging with their credit or debit card has been expanded to more than 70 Ewiva sites – for a total of more than 300 high-power charging points (PoCs) throughout Italy.

The service includes the ability to pay directly at the Ewiva charging station in contactless mode through debit, credit or prepaid cards from the Mastercard, Visa, Vpay and Maestro circuits, or through Apple Pay and Google Pay. In this way, Ewiva guarantees charging of their electric vehicle even for occasional customers, such as tourists, those who have activated a short-term rental of an electric vehicle, or anyone who does not already have a subscription with a charging service provider (MSP).

In addition, the card payment solution is designed to offer an alternative to those who are oriented toward pay-as-you-go charging, including regular e-drivers who, when in need, may need different payment methods to charge the car.

“We are very proud to announce the end of the pilot phase and the start of the operational phase of the project, which has now come to include more than 70 charging stations throughout the country,” said Federico Caleno, CEO of Ewiva and Head of Enel e-Mobility Italy. “As a CPO – Charging Point Operator, it is crucial for us to make electric vehicle charging accessible to an increasingly large number of e-drivers, ensuring a fast, intuitive and comfortable experience. Through this project, we will also be able to adequately respond to occasional charging needs.”

Launched in March 2023 at the HPC – High Power Charging – station in Ceprano (FR), the trial was then expanded to 5 other sites, selected by usage rate, traffic of tourists or e-drivers, and proximity to possible points of interest. The project has now entered its most mature phase and has been extended – by the end of 2023 – from north to south to all stations in Ewiva’s ultra-fast charging network in Italy that are part of the European Miliar-E project, in line with the European Commission’s Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR).

Ewiva: ultra-fast charging for electric vehicles arrives in Colleferro (RM)

Located in the parking lot of the Coop shopping area, the station best reflects the will of Ewiva and the municipal administration to make electric car charging increasingly accessible.

In Colleferro, mobility is becoming even more sustainable. Ewiva, the joint venture of Enel X Way and Volkswagen Group, created with the aim of making high-power public charging for electric vehicles increasingly widespread in Italy, today inaugurated a new High Power Charging (HPC) station in Colleferro (RM).

Consisting of 2 Charging Infrastructures (IdR) or “columns” of 300kW each, for a total of 4 charging points (PoC), the station is located in Via Romana, a strategic location just off the A1 highway exit and inside the parking lot of the Coop shopping area.

This is an important step in support of an ever-increasing diffusion of electric mobility and testifies to the City Administration’s commitment to innovation and environmental sustainability, with citizen services that are increasingly cutting-edge and accessible. Thanks to the synergistic collaboration with the Municipality, the number of sites activated by Ewiva in Lazio rises to 30, for a total of 115 charging points, adding to the 2,556 charging points operated by Enel X in the region, of which 2,016 are in the Metropolitan City of Roma Capitale.

“The deployment of Charging Infrastructure for electric vehicles is as essential for the development of sustainable mobility as it is strategic for the growth of local realities – said Federico Caleno, CEO of Ewiva and Head of Enel e-Mobility Italy – We thank the Municipal Administration for the valuable collaboration that has allowed us to bring to an area as industrially vibrant as Colleferro an innovative, powerful and high-performance HPC station, ideal not only for the residents of this area, but also for those who travel by electric for work or for daily trips.”

“With the inauguration of the Ewiva high-power charging station at the Coop parking lot,” said Colleferro Mayor Pierluigi Sanna, “the Municipality of Colleferro takes another big step toward the ecological transition related to individual mobility. Added to this is the possibility to take advantage of the proximity to the highway exit and give the opportunity for those who recharge, albeit in the short time necessary, to visit nearby businesses. Colleferro thus confirms its active role in promoting increasingly electric mobility and once again shows itself to be a city attentive to environmental sustainability.”

Ewiva makes its TV debut: billboard on air on La7

The company, created with the aim of making electric vehicle charging increasingly widespread, for the first time on air on TV with creativity and planning by Melismelis.

Building an ultra-fast high-power charging network for electric travel throughout Italy. This is the starting point for the 10-inch spot marking the TV debut of Ewiva, the joint venture of Enel X Way and Volkswagen Group. On air from Dec. 4 to Dec. 16, 2023 on La7, the 10″ is planned in prime time with passages during the network’s main productions in addition to 50 TV billboards positioned before and after La7’s weather, airing in the morning, coffee break and evening time slots.

In addition to representing Ewiva’s debut on the small screen, this planning also marks another important milestone for the company: it comes, in fact, exactly one year after its launch and aims to strengthen the path taken by the joint venture in the Italian territory, strengthening its brand awareness.

“The eMobility market is constantly evolving and it is a priority for all the operators involved to undertake a path of awareness for the end user,” said Luigi Antonio Poggi, Head of Marketing & Sales, Strategy, Communications at Ewiva. “It is not only necessary to publicize the service offered, but also to promote and support a concrete change towards the choice of moving electrically. It is for this reason that Ewiva, as a CPO – Charging Point Operator, which is building the most extensive ultra-fast network in Italy, has decided to focus on communication of this kind.”

Creativity and TV planning were handled by Melismelis, the agency that also handles the company’s media relations.

“Through a synergic work with Ewiva’s Communication and Marketing team, we have realized, in record time, a very tactical 10″ that aims to take the first steps of the brand awareness path of a brand with an incredible potential”– said Massimo Melis, CEO of Melismelis.
