The third edition of the Sustainable Electric Cars Race for Students (SEL3C4RS), the National Sustainable Mobility Competition, concluded on March 6 as part of KEY – The Energy Transition Expo in Rimini, with the Cerebotani Racing Team from the IIS “L. Cerebotani” in Lonato del Garda (BS) taking the top spot on the podium. Second place went to the team from the IIS “Verona Trento” in Messina with the X-MEME project, while third place went to the 3AMotion team from the IIS “Il Tagliamento” in Spilimbergo (PN).

 

SEL3C4RS is a one-of-a-kind competition, promoted and organized by the Network of Schools for Sustainable Mobility and supported by Motus-E as an institutional partner, in which students from all over Italy design and race small-scale radio-controlled electric vehicles. Ewiva, the Enel Group’s operator of ultra-fast charging stations and the initiative’s main sponsor, supported the competition to help spread the culture of electric mobility among the younger generation and foster the development of technical skills related to the energy transition.

 

The 2026 edition of the competition saw an increase in participation, with 25 teams taking part—up from 17 in the previous edition—for a total of over 150 students and 50 accompanying teachers from all over Italy: much more than just a competition, but a true laboratory for training, research, and the development of future skills.

 

The Podium Winners

After three days of free practice, warm-ups, speed trials, and endurance tests, the Cerebotani Racing Team from the IIS “L. Cerebotani” in Lonato del Garda (BS) claimed the top spot on the podium with a radio-controlled electric car prototype inspired by the famous Herbie Beetle, adapted to the project’s technical requirements: its compact shape and rounded lines were redesigned to optimize component layout and improve stability and interior space management. The vehicle also incorporates an intelligent electronic system capable of monitoring parameters such as current, voltage, and temperature in real time to automatically adjust performance, as well as a remote control designed and 3D-printed.

 

Second place went to the team from the IIS “Verona Trento” in Messina with X-MEME, a vehicle designed using 2D and 3D digital modeling and incorporating 3D printing for numerous components, combined with CNC machining. The prototype is completed by a lightweight chassis designed in CAD and a 4×4 all-wheel-drive system with a dual differential, engineered to improve stability, traction, and efficiency during the race.

 

Third place went to the 3AMotion team from IIS “Il Tagliamento” in Spilimbergo (PN), creators of a radio-controlled electric vehicle prototype developed from CAD design through to construction in school labs using CNC machining and 3D printing. The project stood out for its use of recycled and sustainable materials and for a campaign to engage local sponsors, through which the students promoted the project and raised awareness among local businesses about sustainable mobility.

Ewiva, the Enel Group’s operator of ultra-fast charging stations, continues to invest in the development of its network and is launching a new site in Urbino, on Via Bonconte da Montefeltro, in a strategic location near the city’s Civic Hospital. This infrastructure is designed to meet the daily charging needs of residents, healthcare workers, and visitors, helping to make electric mobility increasingly accessible in the heart of the urban area.

 

The new station is equipped with two High Power Charging (HPC) stations, each with 150 kW, for a total of four high-power charging points (PoC), capable of providing an ultra-fast and reliable service.

 

The ultra-fast charging station in Urbino is situated in a particularly significant urban context, thanks to its proximity to a healthcare facility that is vital for the city and the surrounding area. The site’s central location allows for the integration of electric charging into daily activities, enabling those who visit the hospital for work, care, or appointments—as well as those who live or travel within the city center—to optimize and make the most of their time spent there.

 

With this new installation, Ewiva further strengthens its presence in the Marche region, where 14 ultra-fast charging stations are now operational, bringing the total number of high-power charging points to 44. This underscores the company’s commitment to actively supporting the transition to zero-emission mobility, even in urban centers of historical and cultural significance.

 

Like all stations in the Ewiva network, the Urbino site is powered 100% by renewable energy and accepts all major payment methods: via app or RFID card from one of over 100 interoperable charging service providers (MSPs), directly at the charging station with contactless payment (credit, debit, and prepaid cards from Mastercard, Visa, VPay, and Maestro, as well as Apple Pay and Google Pay), or via the Plug&Charge feature, which allows compatible vehicles to automatically start charging by connecting the cable, without the need for manual authentication.

SEL3C4RS is, in fact, aimed at high schools, vocational training centers, and ITS Academies throughout Italy, which are challenged to design and build a small-scale, radio-controlled electric vehicle and put it on the track: a competition that offers students a hands-on, practical experience integrating knowledge of mechanics, electronics, chemistry, and logistics with cross-disciplinary skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, and time management.

 

The competition is based on the principles of cost-effectiveness, collaboration, safety, and innovation: it involves the use of supplied components and materials—including recycled ones—encourages participation from schools with diverse academic programs, and promotes cooperation among students, while ensuring high standards of electrical and mechanical safety and the adoption of cutting-edge technological and organizational solutions.

Growing numbers for the 2026 edition

There will be 25 participating teams, up from 17 in the previous edition, for a total of over 150 students and 50 accompanying teachers, coming from Valle d’Aosta, Piedmont, Liguria, Lombardy, Tuscany, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Trentino-Alto Adige, Apulia, Basilicata, Sicily, Emilia-Romagna, and Umbria.

 

During the three-day event, the teams will alternate between technical inspections, free practice, and warm-up sessions with official races on the track. Concurrently, the vehicle’s engineering aspects, design, construction solutions, and environmental sustainability will also be evaluated. The final standings will be determined by the sum of the scores obtained in the various tests, with the podium announcement on March 6, 2026.

The Network of Schools for Sustainable Mobility

The Network of Schools for Sustainable Mobility (www.rete-emobility.it) brings together 48 technical and vocational schools across 13 Italian regions and promotes a culture of sustainability in line with the goals of the UN 2030 Agenda. In addition to training teachers and students on electric mobility, it collaborates with businesses and universities on technology transfer initiatives and FSL (School-Work Training) programs.

Furthermore, the Network has launched a national training program leading to the certification of “Technician for the Design, Management, and Maintenance of Sustainable Mobility Systems,” now in its sixth edition and carried out in collaboration with Motus-E, the University of Messina, and the Polytechnic University of Bari. To date, the program has involved approximately 1,700 students and generated over 40,000 hours of training.

Ewiva, the Enel Group’s ultra-fast charging station operator, takes stock of the year just ended. In 2025, the company activated an additional 430 high-power charging points (PoCs), distributed across 105 new stations spread throughout Italy from north to south, achieving the milestone of at least one new activation per Italian region. These figures bring the total Ewiva network to over 1,600 charging points across approximately 450 sites nationwide, all powered by 100% renewable energy.

 

The number of charging points activated in 2025 marks an increase of nearly 150% compared to the previous year. This growth has significantly impacted all geographic areas: nearly +160% in the North, over +50% in Central Italy, and a particularly significant increase in the South and the Islands, where growth exceeded +210%, demonstrating the strong potential of these regions for the development of electric mobility.

 

Continuing its commitment to making charging even more accessible, convenient, and fast, in 2025 Ewiva enabled the entire network to accept payments via POS terminals integrated with contactless technology, using credit cards, debit cards, or digital payment systems (Apple Pay and Google Pay). This payment system complements the other methods already available on the Ewiva network.

 

In addition, in 2025, the first charging station of the Ewiva network for e-trucks was inaugurated in Piacenza, marking the first facility of its kind to be activated on public land in Italy. This achievement represents an important step toward building the infrastructure needed to support electric logistics, a strategic sector for the decarbonization of freight transport at the national level.

 

Education and culture: change also starts with awareness

Alongside the widespread development of the high-power charging network across the country, Ewiva reaffirmed its commitment to public outreach in 2025. In fact, for the company, the development of electric mobility also depends on a widespread cultural shift, one that involves, first and foremost, the younger generations, and promotes the building of a shared awareness of sustainability and innovation.

 

During the 2024–2025 school year, Ewiva launched the first edition of the E-MOBILITY@SCHOOL educational project, which involved over 500 classes and approximately 12,500 students across Italy, bringing a curriculum on electric mobility, sustainability, and innovation to secondary schools. The cultural value of the initiative was also recognized at the national level, with the project being named a finalist for the 2025 Blue Green Economy Award in the “Social Sustainability – Small Businesses” category. This success led to the project being renewed for the 2025–2026 school year as well.

 

Also in the educational sphere, the company sponsored the latest edition of the National Sustainable Mobility Competition (SEL3C4RS), held in March 2025 in Rimini as part of KEY Energy: the initiative, organized by the Network of Schools for Sustainable Mobility, involved schools and technical institutes from all over Italy in a competition dedicated to the design and construction of scale models of electric vehicles. A project that combined hands-on experience with the dissemination of practical knowledge.

 

Finally, in 2025, Ewiva launched the sector’s first TV and radio campaign, which literally gave a voice to the network’s charging stations, transforming them into the stars of an active promotional campaign throughout the month of May.

 

Environmental Impact Figures

From the start of operations through the end of 2025, the Ewiva network has supplied over 50 million kWh of renewable electricity, enabling more than 1.5 million charging sessions and over 300 million kilometers of electric driving—a distance equivalent to nearly 7,500 times the circumference of the Earth.

 

According to Ewiva’s data, this usage has prevented the emission of over 90 tons of nitrogen oxides, more than 2 tons of particulate matter, and over 35,000 tons of CO₂ into the atmosphere—a reduction that, in environmental terms, is equivalent to planting more than 2 million trees. There has also been a positive impact in terms of noise pollution: recharging with Ewiva has prevented an amount of urban noise comparable to that generated by approximately 60,000 internal combustion engine vehicles in a year.

 

 

Ewiva has won the bid to build an ultra-fast charging station at the Rio dei Cocchi service area, located along the A6 Turin-Savona highway at KM 10+800 (Autostrada dei Fiori). In this bid, the Enel Group’s ultra-fast charging station operator stood out for the solutions it proposed in terms of accessibility and customer service quality—key aspects for ensuring a simple, safe, and affordable charging experience for everyone. The project represents a significant milestone in the development of a widespread, innovative network open to all electric vehicles, which concretely meets the needs of e-drivers.

 

The new station will be equipped with a 400kW charging infrastructure featuring two charging points (PoCs): one of the most technologically advanced solutions in the Ewiva network, which will help increase the efficiency of electric vehicle stops along one of the main highway corridors in northwestern Italy. The site will also feature a canopy with integrated lighting, a video surveillance system, and a strategic location within the parking area, near the gas pump and the service station’s café.

 

Payment and assistance services: uncompromising accessibility

To ensure maximum accessibility and inclusivity of the service, Ewiva offers e-drivers a comprehensive and flexible range of payment options, designed to accommodate different usage habits and user profiles. You can start charging via the integrated POS terminal with contactless technology, using credit or debit cards or digital payment systems (Apple Pay and Google Pay), or through the apps of major charging service providers (MSPs), RFID cards, or Plug&Charge technology, which allows charging to start automatically simply by connecting the vehicle to the charging station, without the need for additional authentication.

 

In addition to the variety of payment systems, Ewiva ensures efficient, continuous, and multi-channel customer support. Support is available 24/7 in both Italian and English, with the option to add additional languages upon request. Support is available via phone, email, chatbot, or live agent, offering comprehensive and accessible coverage at every stage of the charging experience: from the start of the process to the resolution of any technical issues.

Ewiva, the company founded to accelerate the adoption of electric mobility in Italy by building the country’s largest ultra-fast charging network, announces the second edition of “E-MOBILITY@SCHOOL – The Electrifying Journey Begins Today”, an educational program designed to introduce students and teachers to the topics of ecological transition and environmental sustainability.

 

The project, sponsored by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security and carried out in collaboration with Neways, is free and targets high schools across the entire country, from north to south. Thus, with the ‘E-MOBILITY@SCHOOL’ project, the company aims to help build a new awareness, starting with young people: the agents of change, the bearers of new habits and values. For Ewiva, in fact, it is essential that schools become laboratories for the future, where sustainability is no longer perceived as an option, but as the only possible path toward building a better tomorrow.

 

Growing numbers for the second edition: from 500 to 700 classes

 

Compared to last year, the project has expanded significantly: over 700 classes are participating in this new edition, with the potential to reach 17,500 students.

 

Each school will receive an educational kit, accessible both online and offline, designed to effectively support teachers’ work in the classroom but also ideal for individual study at home. The materials address topics such as environmental sustainability, renewable energy, climate change, and technological innovations related to e-mobility in a clear and engaging way. In fact, the content of the educational kit aligns with the goals of the UN 2030 Agenda and the requirements of the cross-curricular Civic Education program, and can be easily integrated into the curriculum. At the end of the activities, there is a final questionnaire: upon passing it, students receive a certificate of participation valid for academic credit, according to the procedures defined by each individual school.

 

But that’s not all: in this second edition, in-person meetings with Ewiva experts have doubled, increasing from 3 to 6 events across the country. Designed to foster authentic and constructive dialogue between the industrial and educational sectors, these events offer students and teachers the opportunity to explore the themes of ecological transition, technological innovation, and sustainable mobility

The Creative Contest: Ideas That Become Urban Art

The creative contest has been confirmed for the 2025–2026 school year as well, with new content and a fresh approach this year. Classes that decide to participate will be asked to create a project inspired by the theme “Sustainable Energy and Mobility: How Do You Envision the Future?”, interpreting Ewiva’s core values:

– Freedom, understood as the ability to travel electrically with ease;

– Sustainability, through a zero-emission, quiet, and relaxing experience;

– Maximum power, thanks to efficient infrastructure that enables ultra-fast charging;

– Accessibility, understood as the opportunity for everyone to charge easily.

 

The winning entries will be transformed into actual murals: based on the students’ drawings, professional street artists will create artistic decorations to embellish the electrical cabinets at select Ewiva charging stations across various Italian locations. Additionally, the three winning schools will each receive vouchers worth €1,000 for the purchase of educational materials.

Our itinerary begins in the center of Piacenza, a city rich in history and art. We start in Piazza Cavalli, the beating heart of the city, dominated by the imposing equestrian statues of the Farnese family and the majestic Gothic Palace. Not far away is Piacenza Cathedral, one of the best examples of Romanesque architecture in Italy. Finally, a visit to Palazzo Farnese, which houses museums, exhibitions and historical collections, is not to be missed.

The Via Emilia by Electric: Parma
The second stop on our itinerary is Parma, about an hour’s drive from Piacenza. It is a center of great cultural and gastronomic richness. In the heart of the city we find the Cathedral, a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture with frescoes by Correggio, and the Baptistery, a splendid building covered in pink marble. Not far away is the Teatro Farnese, a 17th-century theater made entirely of wood that is now part of Parma’s National Gallery museum complex. For lovers of walking, the Ducal Park is the perfect destination to spend a few hours outdoors.

The Via Emilia by Electric: Modena
Our itinerary along the Via Emilia takes us to Modena. The visit begins at the Duomo and the Ghirlandina Tower, both of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. From the top of the tower there is a breathtaking panoramic view of the city. For motoring enthusiasts, a visit to the Enzo Ferrari Museum, which tells the story of the famous Italian automotive brand with unique car displays and memorabilia, is a must.

The Via Emilia on electric: Bologna
Fourth and final stop on our electric tour of the Via Emilia is Bologna. The city tour starts from Piazza Maggiore, dominated by the Basilica of San Petronio, Bologna’s most important church. Not far away are the famous Two Towers, the Asinelli Tower and the Garisenda Tower (closed for construction, will reopen in 2026). Climbing the 498 steps of the Asinelli Tower provides a panoramic view of the city. After a stroll through the streets and under Bologna’s famous arcades, you can indulge in a stop at the Mercato di Mezzo to savor local products or shop among the many stalls of Bolognese specialties.

Ewiva, the joint venture of Enel X and Volkswagen Group created to accelerate the development of electric mobility in Italy, has inaugurated a new ultra-fast charging station in Pontassieve, in Piazza Aldo Moro. This new site, realized through synergistic collaboration with the municipal administration, contributes to making electric mobility more accessible for residents and travelers.

 

The new station is equipped with 2 charging infrastructures, also known as 150 kW “columns,” for a total of 4 charging points (PoCs), offering an ultra-fast and reliable charging experience to all e-drivers in the area. The strategic location of the site, located in a commercial area along the SS67 Tosco Romagnola, one of the main arteries connecting Florence with central Italy, allows users to take advantage of the charging time to take advantage of nearby stores, bars and restaurants, as well as supermarket and post office.

 

With this new activation, Ewiva further strengthens its network in Tuscany, which now has 18 ultrafast charging stations, for a total of 60 active high-power charging points in the region.

This new site, built in synergy with dealer Essepiauto, contributes to the development of services and infrastructure to make electric mobility an increasingly easy choice. This achievement was also made possible thanks to the support of the municipal administration, which is attentive to the needs of e-drivers in the area.

 

The new station is equipped with 3 charging infrastructures, also called “columns,” of 300 kW each, for a total of 6 charging points (PoCs): an accessible and flexible solution for residents and tourists. In addition, the station is located in a commercial area, a short distance from the highway junction, making it a strategic and convenient stop for all e-drivers.

 

With this new activation, Ewiva reaches a total of 23 ultra-fast stations and 72 active high-power charging points in Sicily, helping to make e-mobility a practical option throughout the region. The chosen location in Mazara del Vallo is particularly relevant to support tourist traffic, especially during the summer season, and to meet the demand for ultra-fast charging solutions in the area.

The new site is equipped with 2 Charging Infrastructures (IdR) – or “columns” – of 150kW each, for a total of 4 charging points (PoC) and is located in a commercial area, a short distance from the Loreto freeway exit of the Adriatic Highway, in a strategic position both for e-drivers traveling on the A14, but also for those who make small daily trips and for those who want to take advantage of the short wait for charging while indulging in a snack or a bit of shopping.

 

With the inauguration of the new charging station at Via Pizzardeto 20 in Loreto, Ewiva is further extending the ubiquity of its High Power Charging (HPC) network from 100kW to 350kW in Italy and the Marche region. In the region, in fact, the high power charging stations already activated by the joint venture rise to 13, for a total of 40 charging points.
