More infrastructure, more interoperability, and new initiatives to make public charging increasingly accessible, thanks also to dedicated promotions and a shared commitment with the industry.
On the occasion of Earth Day, Ewiva – the joint venture between Enel X and the Volkswagen Group created to accelerate electric mobility in Italy – presents the environmental results achieved by its ultra-fast charging network, powered 100% by renewable energy.
Since its launch, Ewiva has recorded over 1 million charging sessions, enabling e-drivers to travel more than 200 million zero-emission kilometers – equivalent to over 5,000 times the Earth’s circumference. This has avoided the emission of over 25,000 tons of CO₂ into the atmosphere, a reduction equivalent to planting more than 1 million trees.
The positive impact extends to air quality, thanks to the prevention of more than 1.5 tons of atmospheric particulate matter and over 60 tons of nitrogen oxides. It also brings benefits in terms of noise pollution: an amount of noise equivalent to that produced by more than 40,000 internal combustion vehicles has been avoided. These figures tell the story of a real transformation: Ewiva’s network is not just a charging infrastructure, but a catalyst for change that helps make cities cleaner, quieter, and more welcoming for the mobility of the future.
An ultra-fast, widespread, and reliable network
In the first quarter of 2025, Ewiva further expanded its presence, reaching 400 completed stations and over 1,400 HPC charging points distributed throughout Italy. The network now covers around 90% of Italian provinces and is interoperable with around 100 Italian and international mobility service providers (MSPs).
More than 80% of Ewiva charging stations are equipped with integrated POS systems, allowing direct payment at the station via card or smartphone, without subscriptions or registration, making them accessible even to occasional users.
Sustainability not only environmental, but also economic for users
Ewiva’s commitment to developing electric mobility is reflected not only in its infrastructure expansion and service quality but also in its strategy to make charging increasingly accessible and economically sustainable. Among the upcoming initiatives, the company has planned a promotion starting from May 1st, dedicated to users who charge via contactless using Mastercard, Visa, VPay, and Maestro debit, credit, or prepaid cards, or via Apple Pay and Google Pay.
This approach fits into a broader vision, where the joint effort of the entire supply chain – from CPOs to MSPs – is essential to building simpler, more transparent, and beneficial solutions and offers for users, making a tangible contribution to the spread of electric mobility in Italy.
“Contributing to the energy transition of our country also involves daily choices, like choosing to drive electric. Our goal is to make this choice easier, more accessible, and more convenient,” said Daniela Biscarini, CEO of Ewiva. “This is why – as a CPO – we are investing both in expanding the charging network and in launching promotional initiatives that directly benefit users – such as the upcoming promotion for contactless card charging – and the MSPs with whom we are interoperable.
Our initiatives toward MSPs are designed to promote a dynamic and effective transfer of benefits to end users. Our efforts will be even more effective in developing the market if MSPs work synergistically to make charging affordable and accessible. Only through active collaboration among all players in the industry can we strengthen trust in public infrastructure and jointly accelerate the sustainable growth of the entire ecosystem.”
